The Staff Selection Commission issued a corrigendum on 26 October 2026 that revises the examination dates it had announced in its Important Notice of 1 October 2026. Two examinations are affected: the Junior Engineer Examination, 2026 and the Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces Examination, 2026.

Most pages reporting this will simply reprint the new dates. Read against the notice it corrects, the change is more specific than that — and in one case it creates a clash the corrigendum itself does not mention.

What actually changed

ExaminationAnnounced on 1 OctoberRevised on 26 October
Junior Engineer Examination, 2026 — Paper-I (CBE)2 to 6 November 20262 to 6 November 2026 and 30 November to 1 December 2026
Sub-Inspector in Delhi Police and CAPFs Examination, 2026 (CBE)20 to 28 November 202623 to 28 November 2026
Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, 2026 — Tier-I30 November to 31 December 2026Not changed

So, precisely:

  • Junior Engineer Paper-I has not been postponed. The original window stands. A second window has been added at the end of November. The Commission has not said which candidates will sit in which window — that will follow from the admission certificate.
  • The Sub-Inspector examination lost its first three days. It was to begin on 20 November; it now begins on 23 November. The closing date of 28 November is unchanged, so the same examination is being compressed into a shorter window.

The clash the notice does not mention

The Commission's 1 October notice put CHSL 2026 Tier-I from 30 November to 31 December 2026. The corrigendum does not touch that line. It does, however, add a Junior Engineer window on 30 November and 1 December — inside the CHSL Tier-I period.

A candidate who has applied for both JE 2026 and CHSL 2026 could therefore be called on the same day for both. CHSL Tier-I runs over a month and is scheduled candidate by candidate, so in most cases it will not collide. But if your JE admission certificate puts you in the second window, check your CHSL date carefully as soon as it is issued, and raise it with the Commission immediately rather than on the morning of the examination.

The exam-city notice already told you which window you are in

On 23 October the Commission published the exam-city and admission-certificate notice for JE 2026 Paper-I. Read next to the corrigendum, it is not out of date — it is the document that explains the split. Paragraph 7 lists exactly who sits when: General Engineering in Civil & Structural, Electrical and Mechanical, and IMD Scientific Assistant in Computer Science/IT, Electronics & Telecommunication and Physics, sit from 2 to 6 November. The one post scheduled for 30 November and 1 December is JE (Telecommunication), whose exam-city details go live 8–10 days before that window.

Exam-city details for the 2–6 November papers are already visible through the login module on ssc.gov.in. Treat the admission certificate as the final word on your date — the Commission says it will be available roughly two to three days before each examination date, through the same login.

Two deadlines in that notice expire on 27 October at 11:00 PM

  • Own-scribe candidates must map their Scribe OTR by 27 October 2026, 11:00 PM. The Scribe Entry Pass is generated only for candidates who complete the mapping — an unmapped scribe does not get an entry pass.
  • Scientific Assistant subject change: candidates who had opted for JE (Telecommunication) and selected Scientific Assistant have been defaulted to Electronics & Telecommunication as their subject. If you want CS/IT or Physics instead, change it in the city-live login by 27 October 2026, 11:00 PM. After that, the subject printed on your admission certificate is the one you sit — no further change is permitted.

Two other points from that same notice are easy to miss:

  • Scribe registrations made before 5 November 2025 have been disposed of. Candidates using the "own scribe" facility must register their scribe afresh.
  • Scribe registration is now tied to Aadhaar authentication, so the scribe must complete that step before the examination.

Junior Engineer 2026 — what you are sitting for

The Commission published tentative vacancies for JE 2026 on 8 October: 1,699 posts across twenty departments. The single largest block is not a Junior Engineer post at all — it is 462 Scientific Assistant posts in the India Meteorological Department, which are recruited through this examination.

The split below is reproduced exactly as the Commission printed it.

Sub-Inspector 2026 — what you are sitting for

Applications for this examination closed on 30 September 2026 and the correction window closed on 10 October 2026. Nothing in the 26 October corrigendum reopens either. The notice of 10 September 2026 carries 1,871 tentative vacancies in total.

Of the 205 Delhi Police male posts, 184 are open and 21 are earmarked for ex-servicemen. The female vacancies carry no ex-servicemen reservation. The Sub-Inspector (Fire) posts in CISF are male-only, and the age limit for them is 18 to 30 years against 20 to 25 for the other posts, reckoned as on 1 August 2026.

What to do now

  1. Do not act on the 2–6 November dates alone if you are a JE candidate. Wait for the admission certificate, which is the only document that tells you your actual date.
  2. If you applied for both JE 2026 and CHSL 2026, note 30 November and 1 December as dates to check twice.
  3. Sub-Inspector candidates: your examination now starts on 23 November, not 20 November. If you had booked travel for the earlier dates, change it.
  4. "Own scribe" candidates: re-register your scribe and complete the Aadhaar authentication before the examination, regardless of when you registered previously.

Frequently Asked Questions

Has the SSC JE 2026 exam been postponed?

No. The Paper-I window of 2 to 6 November 2026 still stands. The corrigendum of 26 October 2026 adds a second window on 30 November and 1 December 2026. Your admission certificate will tell you which of the two applies to you.

What are the revised SSC JE 2026 Paper-I dates?

2 to 6 November 2026, and 30 November to 1 December 2026.

What are the new Delhi Police and CAPF Sub-Inspector 2026 exam dates?

23 to 28 November 2026. The examination was earlier to begin on 20 November, so the first three days have been dropped. The last day is unchanged.

Does the change affect CHSL 2026 Tier-I?

The corrigendum does not alter CHSL 2026 Tier-I, which remains 30 November to 31 December 2026. But the new JE window falls on 30 November and 1 December, inside that period, so candidates sitting both should check their dates carefully.

How many vacancies are there in SSC JE 2026?

1,699 tentative vacancies across twenty departments, including 462 Scientific Assistant posts in the India Meteorological Department, which are filled through this examination.

How many Sub-Inspector vacancies are there in 2026?

1,871 in total — 205 Delhi Police male, 112 Delhi Police female, 1,320 Sub-Inspector (GD) in CAPFs and 234 Sub-Inspector (Fire) in CISF.

Can I still apply for the Sub-Inspector examination?

No. Applications closed on 30 September 2026 and the correction window closed on 10 October 2026. The corrigendum revises only the examination dates; it does not reopen the application window.

When will the SSC JE 2026 admit card be released?

The Commission has said the admission certificate will be available roughly two to three days before each examination date, through the login module on ssc.gov.in.

My exam city notice shows 2 to 6 November. Is it wrong?

It is right — the corrigendum of 26 October confirms 2 to 6 November as the first window. That window covers General Engineering (Civil & Structural, Electrical, Mechanical) and the IMD Scientific Assistant papers. Only JE (Telecommunication) sits in the later 30 November – 1 December window. Your admission certificate confirms the final date.

I use the own-scribe facility. Do I need to do anything?

Yes, and there is a deadline. Scribe registrations made before 5 November 2025 have been disposed of, and scribe registration is now linked to Aadhaar authentication. Register your scribe afresh, complete the Aadhaar step, and map your Scribe OTR by 27 October 2026, 11:00 PM — the Scribe Entry Pass is generated only for candidates who complete the mapping.
