The State Level Police Recruitment Board, Andhra Pradesh has notified 2,050 vacancies across the Police Department, Fire Services, Prisons and the Forensic Science Laboratory, through six notifications dated 16 September 2026.
The application dates have not been announced yet. SLPRB releases them through a separate press note, and that is the signal to watch for. Everything else — posts, eligibility, age limits, height standards, fee, the full selection sequence — is already published, which means your preparation can start now and your body has to start now.
That second point is the one that decides this recruitment. AP Police is not a recruitment you can prepare for in the four weeks after the form opens, because the Physical Efficiency Test eliminates more candidates than the written papers do.
2,050 posts — the full list

| 31 | Sub Inspector (SPF) | 9 | Rs. 44,570 – 1,27,480 |
Police Constable Civil and AR together carry 827 posts — more than 40% of the recruitment — and both need only Intermediate. Sub Inspector Civil is the single biggest graduate-level opening at 253 posts.
And then there is the part almost nobody applies to properly. The technical posts — Communications, Drivers, Mechanics and FSL — add up to 516 posts, a quarter of the recruitment, and each of them needs a specific ITI trade, diploma or M.Sc. The applicant pool for those is a small fraction of the pool chasing Constable Civil. If you hold the right ITI certificate or an M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry or a biological science, these are statistically the easiest posts on this entire list to get.
Eligibility by post
Graduate-level posts
- SI (Civil), RSI (AR), SI (SPF) — any degree. SC and ST candidates may apply with Intermediate.
- SI (Communications) — Diploma or B.Tech in ECE, EEE, Computer Engineering or IT, or a three-year B.Sc. in Electronics.
- SI (PTO) — Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical or Automobile Engineering.
- Scientific Assistant (FSL) — M.Sc. in first or second division: Physics or Forensic Science for the Physical division, Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry or Toxicology for the Chemical division, and a relevant biological science for Biology and Serology.
Intermediate-level posts
- PC (Civil), PC (AR), Fireman, Warder — Intermediate or equivalent. SC and ST candidates qualify with SSC plus having appeared in both years of Intermediate.
- PC (Communications) — SSC plus ITI in Electronic Mechanic, IT, COPA, Consumer Electronics or Electrician; or Intermediate with MPC.
- SCT Constable (Mechanics) — SSC plus ITI in Wireman, Motor Vehicle, Diesel or Fitter.
- SCT Constable (Drivers) — Intermediate, or SSC plus ITI in Auto Electrician, MMV, Diesel or Fitter — and a valid LMV licence held for at least two years. If you want this post and your licence is newer than two years, the clock, not your preparation, is the binding constraint.
Age limit — as on 1 July 2026
| Post | Age |
|---|---|
| SI (Civil / AR / SPF), SI (Communications / PTO) | 21 – 27 years |
| PC (Civil / AR), PC (Communications) | 18 – 24 years (32 for eligible Home Guards) |
| SCT Constable (Mechanics) | 18 – 24 years |
| SCT Constable (Drivers) | 18 – 27 years |
| Fireman, Warder | 18 – 32 years |
| Scientific Assistant (FSL) | Up to 44 years |
Relaxations: up to 5 years for EWS, BC, SC and ST candidates; 5 years for Andhra Pradesh government employees; 3 years for ex-servicemen and NCC instructors. Widowed, divorced and judicially separated women applying for PC (Civil) are eligible up to 42 years if SC or ST and 37 years otherwise.
Two things worth noticing. Fireman and Warder run to 32 years against 24 for Constable Civil — so a 28-year-old who thinks they have aged out of AP Police has 329 posts still open. And FSL Scientific Assistant runs to 44, by far the widest window here, which makes it a genuine option for someone who finished an M.Sc. years ago and assumed government recruitment had moved on.
Physical standards — where this recruitment is actually decided
Height, minimum: men 167.6 cm, women 152.5 cm. Relaxations apply to Aboriginal Scheduled Tribe candidates. Height is verified at the Physical Measurements Test and there is no appeal against the measurement.
Vision: 6/6 distant vision in both eyes and 0/5 Snellen near vision, with a full field of vision.
Disqualifying conditions: colour blindness, squint, knock knees, pigeon chest, flat feet, varicose veins, hammer toes and any morbid eye condition. Several of these are things candidates genuinely do not know they have. Get a basic eye and orthopaedic check before you build months of preparation on an assumption — it costs a few hundred rupees and it is better to know now.
Physical Efficiency Test: 1600 metre run, 100 metre run and long jump. For SI (Civil) and PC (Civil) the PET is qualifying only. For the Armed Reserve and SPF posts it carries 100 marks that count towards your selection, which is a completely different proposition — for AR, being fit is not enough; you have to be fast.
For the technical posts — SI (Communications), SI (PTO), PC (Communications), Mechanics and Drivers — the physical requirement is lighter: PMT plus a qualifying 1600 metre run, with no 100 metre or long jump. Another reason the technical posts are underrated.
This is the heart of the matter. Start running today. Not when the press note comes, not when the form opens. The written papers can be absorbed in a few months; a 1600 metre time cannot. Every cycle, large numbers of well-prepared candidates clear the preliminary written test and then go out at the PET, and there is no remedy for it at that stage.
Selection process
SI (Civil / AR / SPF) and PC (Civil / AR), Fireman, Warder
- Preliminary Written Test — two objective papers of 100 marks each: Arithmetic and Reasoning, and General Studies. Qualifying only. Its job is to cut the field down for the physical stages.
- Physical Measurements Test (PMT) — height verification.
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET) — 1600 m run, 100 m run, long jump. Qualifying for SI Civil and PC Civil; 100 marks and merit-counting for AR and SPF.
- Final Written Examination — four papers of three hours each. Papers I and II are qualifying; Papers III and IV decide your merit.
Understand what that structure means before you plan your study. The preliminary test gets you to the ground; the ground gets you to the final exam; and only Papers III and IV of the final exam determine your rank. Candidates routinely over-prepare for the preliminary test, whose marks are discarded, and under-prepare for the two papers that are the only ones that count.
SI (Communications) and SI (PTO)
- Certificate verification
- PMT
- 1600 m run — qualifying
- Written examination — three papers: English 100 marks (qualifying), Arithmetic and Reasoning 100 marks, Technical Paper 200 marks. Merit is decided on Papers II and III, 300 marks in total.
PC (Communications)
- PMT
- 1600 m run — qualifying
- Technical Paper, 200 marks, objective — decides merit
SCT Constable (Mechanics / Drivers)
- PMT
- 1600 m run — qualifying
- Trade Test or Driving Test, 100 marks — qualifying, with a minimum of 50 marks required
- Technical Paper, 200 marks, objective, 3 hours — decides merit
Scientific Assistant (FSL)
- Written examination — 120 questions, 120 marks, 2 hours, in English only
- Certificate verification
No PMT, no PET, no running. FSL Scientific Assistant is a pure written-exam post at Sub Inspector pay, open up to 44 years, with 43 vacancies. If you hold the M.Sc., it is the most accessible well-paid post in this notification by a wide margin.
Minimum qualifying marks across the written stages: OC and EWS 40%, BC 35%, SC and ST 30%.
Application fee
| Category | SI and Scientific Assistant | Constable, Fireman, Warder |
|---|---|---|
| OC / BC / EWS | Rs. 600 | Rs. 300 |
| SC / ST | Rs. 300 | Rs. 150 |
The mistake that costs people the whole application
SLPRB states it plainly: if you pay the fee but do not press Submit on the online application form, the application is rejected without notice and the fee is not refunded.
This happens every cycle, to hundreds of candidates, because payment and submission feel like the same act. They are not. After the payment confirmation you must return to the form and submit it.
So: after you pay, go back, submit, download the submitted application, and confirm your registration number appears on it. If you cannot download a submitted application, you have not applied.
How to apply
- Wait for the press note announcing the application window. There is nothing to fill in before it.
- Create a personal email ID you control and will keep — not a shared or shop-created address. Every notice goes there.
- Register at slprb.ap.gov.in and write down your registration number.
- Fill the Stage I application form.
- Upload your photograph, signature, SSC certificate, and community or EWS certificate.
- Pay the fee online.
- Press Submit. Then download the submitted application as proof.
- Qualifying candidates upload Stage II documents later, when called.
Problems candidates hit — and what to do
"I am 28. Am I too old for AP Police?"
Not for all of it. Constable Civil and AR close at 24, but Fireman and Warder run to 32 — that is 329 posts — and FSL Scientific Assistant runs to 44. Category relaxation of up to 5 years for EWS, BC, SC and ST stacks on top of each of those limits.
"I am 2 cm short of the height requirement."
Height is measured at the PMT and there is no relaxation other than for Aboriginal Scheduled Tribe candidates. If you are genuinely below the minimum, redirect your effort to the posts that have no height bar — FSL Scientific Assistant is the obvious one — or to non-police recruitment altogether. Do not spend a year preparing against a measurement that will not move.
"I cleared the written test last time and failed the PET."
Then you already know what the real exam is. Work backwards from the PET standards and treat running as your primary subject for the next three months, with the written papers secondary. This is the single most common failure pattern in AP Police recruitment and the only fix is time on your feet.
"I have an ITI certificate. Is it worth anything here?"
It is worth a great deal. The Communications, Mechanics and Drivers posts total 413 vacancies and each needs a specific trade. The applicant pool is a small fraction of the Constable Civil pool, the physical requirement is lighter — PMT plus a qualifying 1600 m run, with no 100 m or long jump — and merit is decided by a Technical Paper in a subject you have actually studied. Check which trade each post lists against the certificate you hold.
"I have an M.Sc. but never considered a police job."
Look at FSL Scientific Assistant seriously. Sub Inspector pay scale, 43 posts, age limit 44, and selection by a single written exam with no physical test at all. For an M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, Forensic Science, Bio-Chemistry, Toxicology or a biological science, nothing else in Andhra Pradesh state recruitment offers that combination right now.
"I paid the fee. Am I done?"
No, and this is the costliest misunderstanding in the whole process. Payment and submission are separate steps. Return to the form, press Submit, and download the submitted application. An unsubmitted application is rejected without notice and the fee is gone.
"Which post should I actually choose?"
Start from the constraints you cannot change — your qualification, your age on 1 July 2026, your height, your eyesight — and see what is left. Then among those, prefer the post with the smallest realistic applicant pool rather than the largest vacancy count. For most candidates that means: if you have a technical qualification, use it; if you do not, Constable Civil and AR are where the 827 posts are.
"When will applications open?"
SLPRB will announce it by press release and has not done so yet. The gap is not wasted time — it is the only unhurried stretch you will get. Spend it running, getting your eyes and knees checked, and collecting your community, EWS and study certificates.
Documents to get ready now

- Intermediate or degree or M.Sc. certificates and marksheets
- ITI certificate or engineering diploma, where the post requires it
- Valid LMV driving licence held for at least two years, for the Drivers post
- Community certificate, and EWS certificate where applicable — check it has not expired
- Study certificates establishing local status
- Home Guard service certificate, ex-servicemen discharge book or NCC instructor certificate, where you are claiming relaxation
- A recent photograph and a scanned signature in the prescribed format
Five of the six notifications — Constable (Civil / AR / Fire / Prisons), Constable (Communications), Constable (Drivers and Mechanics), SI (Civil / AR / SPF) and SI (Communications and PTO) — are mirrored above on our own server, so they stay available even if the official links move. The FSL Scientific Assistant notification and the 16 September press note are still only on slprb.ap.gov.in; we will mirror both as soon as they are reachable, and we will update this page with the application dates, the preliminary written test date and the hall ticket link as each is announced.
