The Andhra Pradesh School Education Department has announced 2,721 teacher vacancies through three brief notifications — 1/DSC-2026, 2/DSC-2026 and 3/DSC-2026, all dated 13 October 2026.
The detailed notification arrives on or before 3 November 2026. That is the document you actually apply from, and it will carry the application dates, the exam schedule, the district-wise roster and the subject-wise vacancy split.
So there is nothing to fill in yet. What you have instead is roughly two weeks of warning — which, if you are a B.Ed or D.Ed holder in Andhra Pradesh waiting for a DSC, is the most useful two weeks you will get this year.
Brief notification vs detailed notification
Andhra Pradesh always runs recruitment in two steps, and candidates lose time by misreading the first one.
A brief notification confirms that the recruitment is happening, how many posts there are, and roughly when. It is an announcement. You cannot apply from it and there is no form attached to it.
The detailed notification is the legal document. Eligibility, age cut-off date, fee, reservation roster, syllabus, exam pattern and the application window all come from it. When it contradicts anything you read anywhere — including this page — the detailed notification wins.
The useful thing about the gap is that it is the only stretch of time in the whole process when nobody is rushing. Use it to collect your certificates, not to refresh the portal.
2,721 posts — where they actually are
| Post | Vacancies |
|---|---|
| Secondary Grade Teacher (SGT) | 1,205 |
| School Assistant | 906 |
| SGT (Special Education) | 200 |
| School Assistant (Special Education) | 150 |
| Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) | 113 |
| Post Graduate Teacher (PGT) | 81 |
| Physical Education Teacher (PET) | 34 |
| Principal | 30 |
| Physical Director | 2 |
| Total | 2,721 |
Two posts carry 2,111 of the 2,721 vacancies — SGT and School Assistant. If you are eligible for either, this notification is substantially about you, and the other seven posts are a rounding error by comparison.
The 2,721 figure splits across the three notifications as 2,111 general posts, 350 special education posts and 260 society posts. The societies here are the residential school bodies — the Social Welfare, Tribal Welfare and BC Welfare residential institutions — which recruit TGTs, PGTs and Principals rather than SGTs. That is why TGT, PGT and Principal appear at all in a DSC.
The 350 special education posts are the quietest opportunity in this notification. They need a specific special-education qualification recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India, which means the candidate pool is a fraction of the general pool while the post count is not. If you hold a D.Ed or B.Ed in special education, your realistic odds here are better than anywhere else on this list.
Which post are you eligible for?
The detailed notification sets the binding conditions. But the structure of AP teacher recruitment has been stable for years, and it works like this:
- SGT — teaches classes 1 to 5. Requires Intermediate plus D.El.Ed / D.Ed (or B.Ed where permitted for this post), and a pass in AP TET Paper 1.
- School Assistant — teaches classes 6 to 8 or 6 to 10 in a specific subject. Requires a degree with the relevant subject plus B.Ed, and a pass in AP TET Paper 2 for the corresponding subject group.
- TGT — residential schools, roughly the School Assistant equivalent: degree in the subject plus B.Ed.
- PGT — residential schools, senior classes. Requires a master's degree in the subject plus B.Ed.
- PET — Intermediate plus a physical education certificate, typically UGDPEd or D.P.Ed.
- Physical Director — degree plus B.P.Ed.
- Principal — master's degree plus B.Ed, with the prescribed teaching experience.
- Special Education posts — the corresponding teacher qualification in special education, from an RCI-recognised institution, plus a valid RCI registration.
For School Assistant your degree subject decides your post, not your preference. A BSc with Mathematics cannot apply for School Assistant (Social Studies) however well prepared they are. Check the subject-group mapping in the detailed notification against your actual degree marksheet — not against what you remember studying.
The TET requirement is the real gate
This is where most AP DSC aspirants come unstuck, so it is worth being blunt about it.
You need a valid AP TET pass to be considered for a teacher post, and the TET paper has to match the post. TET Paper 1 for SGT, TET Paper 2 in the right subject for School Assistant. A TET pass in the wrong paper is no help at all.
Andhra Pradesh's long-standing rule is that TET marks carry weightage into your final selection — conventionally 20% from TET and 80% from the DSC exam — rather than being merely a qualifying hurdle. The exact weightage for DSC-2026 will be stated in the detailed notification, and you should treat that as the authority.
What follows from it, though, is already clear: your TET score is part of your final rank. If you passed TET with a thin margin, that deficit follows you into the merit list and has to be made up in the DSC paper. And if you have no valid TET pass, no amount of DSC preparation will put you on the list.
If you are in that position, do not spend the next fortnight on DSC syllabus. Spend it finding out when the next AP TET is scheduled.
Selection — APTRT 2026
Selection is through a Computer Based Test with objective questions, conducted as part of the Andhra Pradesh Teacher Recruitment Test (APTRT) 2026.
Computer based, not OMR. For a large share of DSC candidates — particularly those who last sat an exam some years ago — that is a genuine adjustment. The questions are no harder, but navigating sections, flagging questions for review and watching an on-screen clock are skills in themselves. Take at least a few full-length online mocks before the exam, specifically to get used to the interface rather than the content.
The paper structure, marks and subject-wise weightage come in the detailed notification. Based on how AP has run these papers, expect content knowledge in your subject to dominate, with sections on perspectives in education, child development and pedagogy, and general knowledge alongside it.
What to do in the next two weeks
You cannot apply yet. You can remove every obstacle that would otherwise cost you the application window.
- Find your TET certificate and confirm the paper, the subject and the marks. Download a fresh copy from the portal if yours is missing.
- Match your degree subjects to a post. Pull out the actual marksheet and read the subject names as printed.
- Collect your certificates — 10th, Intermediate, degree, B.Ed or D.Ed, caste, residence, and study certificates for the local-area claim.
- Check your caste and income certificates are current. OBC and EWS certificates expire. A lapsed certificate is rejected at verification even if it was valid on the day you applied.
- Sort out the local-area question. AP reserves a large share of posts for local candidates, determined by where you studied for classes 4 to 10, not where you live now. Your study certificates decide this, so locate them before the rush.
- Start the syllabus. Content knowledge in your subject is the largest and most predictable scoring area, and it does not change between notifications.
Problems candidates hit — and what to do
"I do not have a TET pass. Can I apply and clear TET later?"
No. A valid TET pass in the matching paper is an eligibility condition at the time of application, and in AP the TET score also feeds into your final merit. Without it you cannot be considered. Your path is the next AP TET, then the DSC after this one.
"My TET is from an older cycle. Is it still valid?"
TET certificates now carry lifetime validity following the NCTE decision, which was adopted across states. Confirm from the detailed notification that DSC-2026 accepts your specific TET year, and keep the certificate ready for verification.
"I have B.Ed. Can I apply for SGT?"
This has swung back and forth. The Supreme Court restricted B.Ed holders from primary-level teacher posts, which made D.El.Ed the safe qualification for SGT. The detailed notification will state exactly which qualification DSC-2026 accepts for SGT, and this is one point where you should not rely on what happened in an earlier recruitment. Read it there.
"Which post gives me the best chance?"
Go by the ratio of posts to likely applicants, not by the post count. SGT has the most seats, 1,205, but also by far the largest applicant pool. The 350 special education posts have a small, specifically qualified pool. And within School Assistant, the odds differ sharply by subject — the subject-wise split in the detailed notification is the number worth waiting for.
"I studied outside Andhra Pradesh. Does that affect me?"
It affects your local candidate status, which determines your eligibility for the local quota in each district, not your basic eligibility. You can still apply as a non-local, but you will compete for the smaller open share. Study certificates for classes 4 to 10 are what establish the claim.
"I have never taken a computer based test."
Practise the interface, not just the syllabus. Sit at least three full-length online mocks under timed conditions. Candidates lose marks to the mechanics — mis-navigating sections, leaving flagged questions unanswered, mistiming the clock — far more often than they lose them to difficult questions.
"Should I wait for the detailed notification before preparing?"
No. Subject content is the biggest scoring block in these papers and it does not change between notifications. Begin with your subject, and fold in the pedagogy and general-knowledge sections once the pattern is confirmed.
Where to apply
Applications are online only, at tet2dsc.apcfss.in. There is no offline route and no third-party portal.
All three brief notifications — general, societies and special education — are mirrored on this page above, hosted on our own server so they stay available if the official links move. We will update this page with the detailed notification, the application dates and the exam schedule as each is released.
